В ювелирном мире – сенсация: на Урале обнаружен новый драгоценный камень. По своим характеристикам он может соперничать с алмазом и изумрудом.

Минерал получил название "мариинскит", нашли его на Мариинском месторождении, сообщает телеканал "Россия 24". Эта крупнейшая в мире площадка по добыче изумрудов находится в Свердловской области. Впервые о новом минерале заговорили восемь лет назад. Поначалу в научном сообществе скептически отнеслись к находке уральских ученых, а само существование этого драгоценного камня попросту отрицали. Только в 2011 году удалось доказать, что мариинскит — абсолютно новый, ранее неизвестный минерал.

Старший научный сотрудник Института геологии и геохимии Уральского отделения РАН Михаил Попов рассказал: "Характеристики этого минерала очень близки к характеристикам бриллианта. Есть одна из главных характеристик драгоценных камней — показатель преломления. От него зависит блеск камня. У этого минерала очень хороший цвет – ярко-зеленый – и высокий показатель преломления. А это значит, что он будет очень хорошо играть, на уровне бриллианта".
